This ribbon chatelaine is created based on the included Godey’s magazine advertisement from 1863. Both the silk velvet ribbon that comprises the top and the jacquard ribbon that make up the “strings” are vintage/antique. The back can either be assembled with a sturdy hook for hanging on the waistband or with a large brooch pin on the back for wearing like an oversized brooch on the skirt or waistband. Ladies’ ribbon chatelaines were hugely popular and helped get away from carrying a more cumbersome miser, reticule, or other small big purse type bag and keep the hands free for fanning oneself delicately, waltzing with handsome suitors, and shopping for Victorian memorabilia. An absolute must have!
